Updating Devices to the Latest Version of Windows 10 | Vice President Michael Burgess

Principals would be aware that schools have been asked to update any devices using old versions of Windows 10. The Technology Reference Group has raised issues around the workload associated with this request.

Drew Janetski and the TRG have been able to organise for the updates to be automatically sent out to devices running version 1809. This will be done in a staged way over the next few weeks. This saves schools manually updating 130,000 devices.

Schools will still need to continue to manually update any devices running older versions of Windows 10. Any devices running Windows 7 will be removed from the network by the end of the term.

Keeping devices up to date with the latest version of Windows is important for security reasons. Schools should have plan to update devices regularly. The risk in not updating devices regularly is a cyber attack that renders your devices unusable or compromises personal data. The workload in remediating a cyber attack is greater than the workload to keep devices up to date.
