NAIDOC Week 2021 | Heal Country:

The official launch of NAIDOC Week 2021 took place at Parramatta on Tuesday. NAIDOC Week is a time to reflect and celebrates the history, culture and achievements of First Nation Peoples, recognising them as the Traditional Custodians of the land. This years’ theme ‘Heal Country‘ calls for us all to continue seeking greater protections for land, waterways, sacred sites and cultural heritage.

The Aboriginal Outcomes and Partnerships Directorate is coordinating virtual events from 21-25 June as NAIDOC Week occurs during the school holidays. The official NAIDOC Week is 4-11 July.

The event at Parramatta was extraordinary – a smoking ceremony, student performances from Inner West Performing Arts High School and an incredibly moving performance from Ziggy Ramo. I don’t think there was a person in the room who wasn’t visibly moved by his performance – I encourage you to YouTube him and listen to his version of the Paul Kelly song – Little Things.

Congratulations to Karen Jones and her team – such an amazing event – very privileged to attend.
